These chests will spawn randomly once in each area and opening them requires, yes you guessed it, a sacrifice of HP. The amount needed to sacrifice will depend on the area you're currently in. Update 1.2.0 introduces a new friendly NPC and a type of shop that allows you to permanently unlock unique guns and items. You'll probably notice that you can't buy anything with crystals in this shop. Instead, the shiny new gems are used as a currency. In each level, based on random, a vending machine of either medkit or ammo will be available with up to 2 uses per level.
