Crunchyroll, the anime streaming service, announced yesterday that it will now be offering games at certain subscription tiers. Announced over on Crunchyroll's own website, the Crunchyroll Game Vault is a newly opened library of games you can play, added on top of all the anime you can watch through the service. The Game Vault won't be available to all members though, as it starts at the Mega Fan tiers, which costs £5.99/$9.99 a month, and is also available through the US only subscription tier Ultimate Fan, which is $14.99 a month. WayForward released a new trailer for upcoming beat-em-up River City Girls 2 at the latest Indie World direct showcasing what’s made a return, what’s new in the game, and also narrowing down the release for Summer 2022. Before the trailer, director Bannon Rudis and producer Colleen Fannin talked about their experiences with the River City series and their excitement at getting to work on this new game. “I’ve been a River City fan since the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System,” Rudis said. We already knew that River City Girls 2 was in the works, but we've not seen a lot about it since it was revealed earlier this year. Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. Are you tired of the same old tropes for side-scrolling beat-em-ups? It’s usually either save the girl or save the world, and it’s all very serious. There are some pretty standard rules in arcade brawlers. You’ve gotta have co-op, that’s for sure. But you’ve also gotta kick things off with a kidnapping. More often than not, that means getting two mean-looking lads to rescue their dames. Bit naff, innit. River City Girls flips the script, with two ass-kicking lasses saving hapless daniels-in-distress Kunio and Riki, the lads from the series’ very first game.
