Take the classic LucasArts point-and-click adventure games of the '90s like The Secret of Monkey Island or Sam and Max, with all their charm and humor as you explore, talk to people, and combine items to solve puzzles in all manner of weird ways. Then add the wall-hopping of 2D platformers such as Celeste and Steamworld Dig 2. What you now hold is Lair of the Clockwork God, a very funny indie game that boasts a 94% Steam rating and can be yours for just $4 right now thanks to a generous Steam sale offer. Dogs. We all love to pet them. And in the game. And thanks to the Twitter account Can You Pet The Dog?, we know where to find them. Pettable dogs where they weren’t before can make gaming news. But of course, “can you pet the dog?” is only one question. “Why can you pet the dog?” is quite another. I spoke to some indie developers about their experiences creating the pettable dogs in question, alongside Tristan Cooper, the curator of the Can You Pet The Dog? account, which is now at nearly half million followers. Heh, I'm still smiling thinking about Lair of the Clockwork God. It's so cheeky. I love how it does everything in service of a good joke. It's even prepared to let you get the wrong idea about something so it can pull an 'a-ha!' moment on you later on. I'd been planning to tell the game off for something in the review until I realised it had all been a big joke and I felt silly. What a wonderful long con. I've never seen a game do it, not like that, nor have I seen a game bundle a separate game, a prequel, that you won't understand the use of until you're about half-way through the main game.

Hello there! Delighted to announce I've been secretly storing up all the bugs that got reported over the last couple of months for one big boring update. With this, the game is now (as far as I'm aware) BUG FREE again so if you're playing it and you're like "hey, hang on a second, THIS IS A BUG!" it means you're very clever and please email full details to dan@sizefivegames.com asap so I can fix it. DISCLAIMER: That said, I have not yet fixed the one where Dan clips into the floor if you jump onto Ben's head. It's something to do with the physics. Will have another look at it asap. Here's the

Hello! I'm aware it's been a few weeks since the last update - bugs are now coming in so infrequently that daily updates no longer really make sense, so I'm saving them all up for larger patches. - Linux version now has a 64-bit version available - Fixed an issue where skipping Splash screens with a gamepad caused the 'Save warting' dialogue to be missed - Fixed missing characters in the dyslexic-friendly font option - Accessing the top bit of a boat is now way easier - Fixed an issue where starting a conversation the instant a lift started to move caused Camera Issues - Fixed some potentially

There's now so few bugs in the game the patch notes are getting silly: - Fixed a weird Linux bug that could cause the game to open at a resolution of 1x1, which APPARENTLY is too small - Once you've completed the game but BEFORE you've started a new one, pressing Back on the Chapter Select screen no longer gets confused. As always if anything has gone WRONG with this build, because I'm an idiot, you can rollback to a previous version by opting into the Beta branch called "rollback". PLEASE LEAVE A STEAM REVIEW if you played the game. Steam reviews feed an algorithm, the algorithm gets me views

- Added Platforming Assist slider - Minor bug fixes This update adds a SUPER NEAT Platforming Assist slider, which tweaks a few platforming settings to suit your needs, including: - Dan's 'wallgrab' time, giving you more time to react - Dan's 'wallslide' speed - Slows down certain tile types (blinking tiles, collapsible tiles, lasers etc) - Removes some hazards entirely If you're finding the platforming too much of a challenge, or you're just not particularly interested in 'that side' of the game, check it out. This feature is in BETA, so may break things. If it does, or if there's something y

It's been a couple of days wince the last update. I've been saving them up for one BIG HUGE FIX: - Fixed a typo, that's the level we're down to now. - Fixed a dialogue option that should have been switched off, but wasn't - Fixed an issue where showing Dan a bra would cause Ben to never stop looking - Fixed an issue where killing Ben would make everything go black - Fixed Ben being unable to teleport in Chapter 11, if running from a load - Fixed Ben sliding along weirdly, using his nose to drag himself painfully across the floor if he dies - Flipping a switch twice and then dying no longer get

Hello! PLEASE LEAVE A STEAM REVIEW if you played the game. Steam reviews feed an algorithm, the algorithm gets me views, and views get me sales, which I need. Thank you! FIXES: - Fixed a mystical omnipresent bra - Level titles no longer display over Main Menu - Mouse should no longer wander onto a second monitor in windowed mode - Fixed an issue with Ben being able to walk while the verb wheel is open, if Interact Toggle is on - Fixed SkipSpeech on a Gamepad not being user-assignable properly - Minor polish fixes As always if anything has gone WRONG with this build, because I'm an idiot, you c

HELLO! Here's todays list of quibbles you've found that I've addressed: - You can no longer avoid death by just chatting away through it - Game no longer pauses when it loses focus - Controls menu should now show "." correctly as the default for for SkipSpeech - Long conversation options are now better-selectable with a mouse - Aiming no longer stays activated when dying while using mouse controls - Ben no longer does sassy talkback when dead - It's no longer possible to teleport in the brief gap between conversations - Fixed an issue where returning from school could lead to infinite blacknes
