The original Costume Quest is an underrated Double Fine classic, an homage to JRPGs dressed up for Halloween in which kids use the powers of their robot suits and unicorn outfits to fight monsters disguised as adults. (The sequel was less great.) Amazon's animated TV adaptation of Double Fine's much-loved Costume Quest series will premiere on March 8th - and there's a first proper trailer to celebrate. Costume Quest's television adaptation was first announced back in 2017, and is the work of Frederator Studios, the team responsible for the likes of Adventure Time and Netflix's animated Castlevania series. As you might recall, last year brought the news that Costume Quest, developer Double Fine's delightful trick-or-treaty Halloween RPG, was to be turned into an animated TV series. That's still a thing that's happening - and if you need further proof, it now has an opening title sequence! It’s like something you’d heckle in a moment of drunk inspiration while watching Dragon’s Den: What if Double Fine and the guys behind Adventure Time joined forces for some reason? Double Fine Studios’ Greg Rice has confirmed just that is happening. It’s about kids’ Halloween costumes actually transforming them, and thus enabling them to battle time-travelling dentists and candy-snatching aliens, in a fight to save the future from sugar-phobic tyranny. Hey! Did you hear the news about Stacking and Costume Quest? No? Oh, right, that’s because I’m still in the process of reporting it. Well, the short version is, Double Fine – after what Tim Schafer describes as “a daring and top-secret midnight raid” on Nordic Games HQ – has reclaimed full rights to both Stacking and Costume Quest.
