Last October, Paradox Interactive announced that they and development studio Harebrained Schemes were breaking up, following underwhelming sales of Harebrained's 1930s-set XCOMlike, The Lamplighters League. I still fondly remember the first time I played Lamplighters League. Sat in a warehouse near downtown San Francisco at GDC, the first level of this XCOM-style turn-based strategy game ensnared me. As the developers at Harebrained Schemes watched from behind (I didn't realize this until afterward), I snuck around a 1940s pulp-inspired dockyard, before going loud and engaging in combat. The Lamplighters League deserved better. A pulpy strategy game from the publisher of XCOM and developed by Harebrained Schemes, the team behind BattleTech and the Shadowrun Trilogy, even a day one PC Game Pass launch couldn't get the eyes on it.
