As part of the PC crowd, I'm pretty resigned to the fact that, even if its initial November release date sticks, we won't be getting GTA 6 over here in 2026. Rockstar Games will want to let its console version sit for a while, whether that's to ensure the PC version is as polished as possible, or simply to entice you to shell out for a PS5 or Xbox copy knowing that you'll probably buy it again when it comes to the Steam shores. If you need something to take your mind off that temptation, a new Rockstar Games sale is just the ticket. Read the rest of the story... RELATED LINKS: Bully Online lea

A financial report from Remedy Games released this morning has confirmed that the Max Payne remake - a modern combination of Max Payne 1 and 2 - is in "full production". This report reveals that the game entered this state within the quarter spanning April - June 2024. In addition, Control 2 has entered its production readiness stage, pointing towards that game's gradual development towards its release. CEO Tero Virtala noted as well that "development fees increased from the comparison period due to higher development fees from Max Payne 1&2 remake". What this essentially means is that its ful

If you're excited about the possibility of classic PC games being given a new lease of life thanks to Nvidia's RTX Remix, you might want to consider that these upgrades don't come without a considerable cost. In a recent demo showing off Max Payne with RTX Remix modifications, the game does look considerably better when running on one of the best graphics cards with path tracing. However, the performance numbers take a huge hit, while GPU power consumption also nearly doubles. Read the rest of the story... Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, is reportedly in a trademark dispute with Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, with the former having claimed that the latter’s logo featuring the letter R resembles its own. This has resulted in Take-Two opposing the trademarks filed by Remedy for two different logo designs via the UK’s Intellectual Property Office, as you can see noted on the listings here and here. It’s an interesting situation to say the least, given that the companies entered an agreement to work together to facilitate remakes of the first two Max Payne game

Actor James McCaffrey, who provided the voice of Max Payne and more recently Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2, has died at the age of 65. According to a statement given by a representative of the actor to TMZ, he passed away surrounded by friends and family on December 17, after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Fellow actor Kevin Dillon was the first to publicly acknowledge McCaffery’s death via a post on Instagram, but there was some initial confusion regarding whether this was actually in reference to the actor, due to the death of an Irish teenager with a similar name being reported around t

James McCaffrey, the actor behind Max Payne, as well as Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2 and Director Trench in Control, has sadly died. Widely known for his work with Remedy, McCaffrey was an icon of gaming since his first appearance as the eponymous, hard-boiled Payne in 2001. Possessing one of the most distinctive voices in the entire business, his deep, gravelly tones became instantly recognizable, lending gravitas, character, and charisma to every role he played. According to reports, McCaffrey had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and died surrounded by family and friends at the age of 65. R

Alan Wake 2 is finally out, but in a recent financial review, developer Remedy Entertainment has offered some updates on what's next. After a long thirteen years, the follow-up to Remedy's 2010 thriller Alan Wake is finally out, but the developer has a lot more in store. For one, there's the Control sequel and multiplayer spin-off announced in 2021, and last year it was revealed that Remedy are working on remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2. Now, in a recent financial review, Remedy has given us some brief updates on its upcoming projects. According to the report, "Control 2 continues in the proof-of-c

Alan Wake 2 director Sam Lake has suggested that, in hindsight, he might not have been as open to the idea of lending his own mug to Max Payne had he known how successful the series would become. With Remedy having just released the long-awaited Alan Wake 2 to a pretty stellar reception, Lake and co look to currently be taking a well earned chance to savour the achievement before getting started on any new projects. In an interview with GQ, Lake touched on his humble beginnings in game development, seemingly suggesting that he might not have gifted his likeness to Max Payne had he been aware j

It's hard to articulate my love for Max Payne. One of the greatest games of all time, when I try to explain precisely what makes it so excellent I get so flustered and overexcited all my words just kind of merge into one big sound. Likewise, Max Payne 2, the action-adventure game sequel, remains one of the best games of 2003, especially those levels in the funhouse. With the Alan Wake 2 release date on its way and Remedy also working on the Max Payne remakes, if you haven't sampled the hard-boiled, bullet-time shooters already - or just want to slow-mo dive back into Max Payne after almost 20

Upcoming horror game sequel Alan Wake 2 is now "playable start to finish" according to developer Remedy, though the Max Payne remakes and Control 2 are still in the conceptual phases. Also, Alan Wake Remastered is yet to generate royalties, but multiplayer games Codename Condor and Project Vanguard are still in development, as the Finnish developer posts financial results for 2022. Industrial band Health and Rockstar Games have announced that a 10-year anniversary edition of the soundtrack for Max Payne 3 is in the works. Today (May 15) is the 10-year anniversary of the third-person shooter, and to celebrate that, a special edition of the game's original soundtrack is being released later this year. This new edition of the soundtrack will feature the tracks included in the original game, but will also debut previously unreleased tracks too. A release date hasn't been set in stone, but it will be available digitally. And for the gamer who likes to buy vinyl soundtracks bu

Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games have entered an agreement that will see the former remake the first two Max Payne games. Announced earlier this week (April 6), Remedy Entertainment released a press release saying that it will be remaking the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. According to the statement, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight engine. Rockstar will finance the development budget, which apparently will be in line with Remedy's typical budget size for a AAA-game production. T

It will be financed by Rockstar (the current overseer of the series), developed in Remedy's Northlight engine, and will be similar in scope to a "typical Remedy triple-A game production" like Control. "Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same," Remedy CEO Tero Virtala says in a press release. You've got to give it to Remedy: they know how to start a story off with a bang. As Max Payne opens, our antihero is on the summit of a skyscraper while sirens wail in the gloom below. "They were all dead," Max says with that famous frown. "The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point." We go back a few years next, to the brutal double murder of Max's wife and newborn child, then follow his revenge mission (guns do the talking, and two wrongs do indeed make a right). By acts two and three, the guns are bigger and the body count has mounted while the web of
