Former Dragon Age series producer Mark Darrah has shared his tuppence worth on the likelihood of BioWare and EA ever commissioning a full-on original Dragon Age trilogy remaster or remake. He thinks such a remastering or remakering would sell pretty well, not least because OG Dragon Age looks like a toilet bowl in a Silent Hill game (I exaggerate the sentiments here slightly). But he also thinks the odds of such a project are low, for the straightforward reason that nobody either inside or outside BioWare really understands the proprietary technology those older RPGs run on. Back before the mighty Baldur's Gate 3 took over the world, it was Dragon Age: Origins that really opened my heart to the old-school fantasy RPG. Set against the much more modern-feeling Mass Effect, Bioware very deliberately built something that appealed to the classic CRPG crowd. Despite Dragon Age Inquisition dropping nearly a decade ago, fans of the famous BioWare franchise are still playing the game and circulating various mods for it online. The third-person fantasy RPG captivated fans during the early days of the Xbox One & PlayStation 4 console era. As someone who is helplessly in love with all things high fantasy, there are a few RPGs I class as my favorite videogames of all time. One of my favorite things about Baldur's Gate 3 is how much it harkens back to Dragon Age: Origins, one of the best PC games ever made. Those are the first words spoken by recurring Dragon Age companion Varric Tethras after the BioWare logo disappears in the most recent trailer for the new Dragon Age game trailer. In a nice surprise during Gamescom Opening Night Live, BioWare has shown off our best look yet at the next Dragon Age game. While we still don't have an official title, we got several snippets of in-game footage showing beautiful new magic-infused environments and at least one large new city. Could this all be set within Tevinter Imperium, as previous teases have suggested? There wasn't much for BioWare fans in tonight's EA Play stream, save for the briefest of glimpses at some new Dragon Age locations running on next-gen consoles. Featured in EA's quick showreel of next-gen projects, BioWare's snippet was quite clearly Dragon Age related. EA has released a wave of its games on Steam - and promised more are to come. Games now on Valve's platform include BioWare's fantasy role-playing games Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, Need for Speed Heat, Rivals and Need for Speed (2016), as well as Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.
