Currently we are aware of two types of bugs related to the save/load system. The first, which we have known about for a while, is to do with long games played on large maps, which overwhelms the save/load system. This is resolved in the sequel, and I'll be taking a look at it before Shadows 2's last major patch. The second is a much larger problem, and prevents some users from ever saving. For some reason, Unity does not perform file operations on those machines in the way which it does on others. This issue is a major one, and frustratingly we have never been able to replicate it on any machi

These few months have been the longest without an update since Shadows 2 came out on Itch a couple of years ago. There is a good reason for it, and the project is not dead. There has been a recurring theme in user feedback which can't be resolved, and it is a core issue with the game itself. Game mechanics are currently split into two connected systems: the politics and the agents. The agents are by far the more popular of the two, and many users have expressed confusion and frustration with the political half of the game. The political mechanics require a lot of streamlining to allow the agen

This version introduces the last planned major feature: Events. Narrative events are little bits of story with a picture and maybe a few decisions to make. As seen in Stellaris, FTL and Crusader Kings, they're mostly there to add flavour to the game and a few elements of surprise. Hopefully they're mostly benenficial, giving the player a few helpful little boosts on their mission to destroy the existence of all life. There are four "major" event trees, with multiple events all chained together, The Twins, The Tomb of Gods, The Pyromanic and The Letter, then a variety of others. They might have

-Plague Doctor given a plague ability, for thematic reasons -Agents told to go to a distant location by right clicking will assign themselves a "go to location" task -Option to enable/disable events -Added more events. Four major chains now exist: Twins, Letter, Tomb and Pyromaniac -Bonus difficulty given to high-level rulers and dukes on harder difficulties -Undead no longer attack Dark Empire -Deep Ones are no longer hostile to surface-dwellers when not at war, reducing risk of getting killed by passing armies -Your enthralled no longer sends letters to themself to turn themself insane -Gods

-Nerf sacrifice broken noble hierophant ability, to prevent it being spammed infinitely in a dark empire -Power gain now increases with world panic and with enthralled noble prestige (giving you a good reason to rise the ranks) -A new feature, our last major one planned, is now in. Only in its first stages, but could lead to some very interesting things in the future

-Bugfix to prevent dark empires existing into the next age -Dark empires no longer spawn investigators -Investigators are disbanded by Dark Society, try to avoid it while wandering and will not report suspicions to nobles of dark empires -Vampires on AI now drink -Boosted visibility of hostile units on map screen, increasing hosility border graphic and making them visible above location and name tags -Nobles' fear of dark agents now occurs based on how close they are to the evil action, not globally. Gives highest threat estimation at the evidence location, then decreasing amounts in the nearb

-Hotfix to resolve reported bug -New Graphics mode "Cyclops Mode", available for our beginning of the next month's graphical update testing. Designed by an illegal Deep Learning AI I got off the NASA Darkweb, it is the most advanced visual experience possible without quantum computing. Access it via the game IO options (the map scroll/key bindings... opts in the bottom right of the screen).

-Provisional support (only black bars, sadly) for ultra-wide monitors -Changed voting slightly. No crisis for Dark Empire agent actions or enshadowed nobles, reduced some vote spam

Version 18! A version really made up of community suggestions packaged together. -fishchisel recommended a few changes to the Dark Name "Winter's Scythe". All abilities have been buffed, and it has gained two new ones. The first, smaller ability, allows you to break links between locations. The concept is that it can advantage your agents by isolating them while they work, or to stop entire armies from making progress. It only works in the snow, so becomes more useful the more you expand. The second is a world-apocalypse power. Once you've got some of the map frozen you can begin to spend powe

Probably the last feature which will go into V18, after this it should just be bugfixing for these new features and a few minor tweaks -Agents can now be "set loose", causing them to become AI-controlled. They'll wander around and try to infiltrate and spread shadow (regardless of their class). They're weaker and worse than they would be under your control, but it's a better use of them than simply killing them off -Talking of, agents now have an ability called `apoptosis' which kills them off Both these free up an enthrallment slot, the first costs you an enthrallment use (to avoid it being O

Added in a new agent for initial testing. Mostly done, might change some stuff for balance, bugfixing or general improvement before it hits the actual main branch. The agent is `The Saviour'. General concept is that you threaten a nation with either war or disease, then The Saviour `rescues' them, either by defeating the enemy or curing the disease. The nobles then love the saviour, and you can exploit this to either infiltrate better, influence politics via trading liking for votes, or boost the prestige of your political enthralled noble.

Based on discussion with community member fishchisel, I've taken a look at Winter's Scythe, and buffed the cold Dark Name somewhat. -Buffs to most abilities -Added a catastrophic power which requires you to have already frozen some of the world. Once you've reached a certain point, you can constantly make it colder. The NPCs' only hope at that point is the Lightbringer Ritual. -Added an ability called 'Blizzard', which allows you to break location-location links, preventing units from travelling between them (amongst other effects). Only works in snowy areas, so you'll have regions of the map

-Added zoom-to capability on event and threat messages in the right-hand sidebar. Did I hack something together because I couldn't figure out how to get Unity's hitscan UI thingy to work and so instead just replaced everything with buttons? Yes I did. Still needs wars to have the same capability, probably, and people want flags to be displayed in messages, so let's see what's possible.

Fixed Resolution issue, which was causing the agent select dialog to scale incorrectly (the previous dialog was still around when it was created, causing it to get confused and upset and not detect the screen resolution properly)

Version 17 is now out, bringing with it Fog and Lights. The first part is a new Dark Name, revolving around Fog. This set of powers attempts to give a broadly useful buff to your agents as they try to infiltrate and enshadow the human nations. It reduces security, which makes infiltration easier, which ideally should be a buff to nearly all agents, in various ways. It also makes human nobles take longer to gain suspicion of enshadowed others, as long as these are inside the fog, so they have more time to spread their shadow to others. Once you've taken control of a noble, you can use them to e
