I'm a sucker for a good character action game. Devil May Cry was a part of my childhood as much as Kingdom Hearts or Grand Theft Auto (way before I should've been allowed to touch it). There's something so engaging about dishing out combos with a flurry of death, and Soulstice manages to capture that intensity, while also oozing a gothic-style atmosphere that fits similar vibes to Darksiders or even those brilliant Dark Souls games. Soulstice is one of those games that slipped under the radar for a lot of people, but it oozes gothic horror charm and features stylish, bombastic combat in the same vein as Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. Launching back in late 2022, it's an indie that was clearly inspired by the hack-and-slash genre's greatest hits, but is unique enough to offer a darker, more serious tale, and you can get this brilliant game - alongside two others - for under $5 if you're quick. Baldur's Gate 3 unquestionably led the conversation in 2023. Soulstice, the character action game from Reply Game Studios, doesn't ask a lot of you. If you're a regular Devil May Cry fan, this game will probably look a little lacking in comparison. It's much smaller in scope and lacks the honed-in fluidity that fuels Capcom's iconic series.
