A few months ago, I ported Cogs from a custom C++ engine I wrote in 2008 to Unity. That's made the game easier to maintain and also opened the doors to make it easier to localize to East-Asian languages. I'm happy to announce that today's build makes Cogs available in Chinese, Japanese and Korean and also fixes some of the text rendering bugs in Russian. As always, feedback is appreciated! As I ported Cogs from the old 2009 engine to Unity, it was too much to get all to old localization files working at the same time. I took some time over the last few weeks to completely overhaul the font rendering system, allowing me to offer Cogs in all these languages! English German Spanish French Italian Dutch Polish Portuguese Russian As part of this change, I've moved all font rendering to use signed distance fields (SDF), which should mean crisper, more legible fonts everywhere. Cogs from Lazy 8 Studios originally released back in 2009, and gained a Native Linux version back with the Humble Indie Bundle 3 in 2011. I recently took some time to port Cogs over to an entirely different code base -- from a custom C++ engine I wrote 16 years ago to C# on Unity. Thanks to a few folks on the forums who have helped me hunt down some launch-day bugs and encouraged me to support the legacy Cloud Save data. This version should be better in just about every way -- snappier, higher-resolution, and more aligned with modern APIs. For now, it's available in English only. Hey, Mountain Lion users -- thanks for your patience while we worked around some bugs in the OSX 10.8 graphics drivers. With the newest changes, I've fixed the flickering borders that could sometimes show up in fullscreen mode. I also modified shadow rendering to bypass a graphics driver bug that was causing a really tragic crash.

The new Humble Indie Bundle is terrific. For a price of your own choosing, you can get indie gems Super Meat Boy, Bit. PlayStation Network has a lot more indie games than you might expect. For example, Steam/iOS darling Cogs is available as a completely free-to-play multiplayer game on your PS3. The only thing is, it's hidden within the confines of PlayStation Home. Gaming is a big push for Home, especially with its upcoming redesign. Updates to Cogs have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include: By popular demand, we just patched in Steam Cloud support for Cogs! The Humble Indie Bundle 3 has expanded in all directions. The pay-what-you want package originally offered Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, And Yet it Moves and Hammerfight, then Mojang threw in a trial to let purchasers play Minecraft for free until August 14. The Humble Indie Bundle is a remarkable success story, since the third version of the pay-what-you-want scheme began last week it's already taken more than $1,000,000 in sales. The money is split between developers, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Child's Play and the cost of maintaining the bundle itself, with purchasers getting to determine how much goes to each.
