Back in 2015, Grim Fandango Remastered came out, making it easier than it had been since the original version's 1998 launch to play one of the most beloved adventure games ever made. Still, even with the attention given to the classic LucasArts launch - one as well regarded as the studio's The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and Maniac Mansion - the remaster didn't provide players with every one of the updates they were looking for. ScummVM celebrated its 20th birthday on Saturday, two decades of making old games easier to run on modern systems. The project started focused on LucasArts adventure games built in the SCUMM game engine and the first release only supported Monkey Island 2, and it has since grown to support over 300 games across other genres too. To celebrate that big birthday, a new update hit adding support for more game engines and many more games, including The Longest Journey, Grim Fandango, and Crusader: No Remorse. Read more

ScummVM is 20 years old - and to celebrate it's just released a big new update. Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine (ScummVM) is a program that allows you to run many classic point-and-click adventure games and RPGs on modern computers. ScummVM was created by then computer science student Ludvig Strigeus, who pushed the initial revision of the code, version 0.0.1., on 9th October 2001. It was originally created to play LucasArts adventure games that use the Scumm system, but it supports many non-Scumm games, too. Read more

Classic LucasArts remasters are coming to Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft has announced. Grim Fandango Remastered, Day of the Tentacle Remastered, and Full Throttle Remastered launch on Xbox Game Pass on 29th October for Xbox and Windows 10 PC. 1993 point and click adventure game Day of the Tentacle is the sequel to Ron Gilbert's Maniac Mansion. Full Throttle is a 1995 graphic adventure from Tim Schafer. And Grim Fandango is the 1998 adventure game also directed by Schafer. Read more

Has it really been 20 years since Grim Fandango? Almost—the game turns 20 in October, and to celebrate Geoff Keighley and Tim Schafer put together a special event at the E3 Coliseum Tuesday night. The main voice cast and composer of LucasArts’ Grim Fandango reunited last night during E3 for a live performance of scenes and songs from the splendid adventure game. The game turns 20 this year, and after all this time it’s just lovely to see them having a lark together, reading through scenes, gabbing about the game, and jamming (and singing!) those top tunes. Great moments in PC gaming are short, bite-sized celebrations of some of our favorite gaming memories.  Grim Fandango is a beautiful adventure, and never moreso than during Year 2. Tim Schafer, the designer of all-time PC Gamer favourites like Grim Fandango, Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle received the BAFTA Fellowship last week in recognition of his creative contribution to games. Along with much of the staff at Double Fine, Schafer is currently working on a sequel to cult classic Psychonauts 2, which was successfully crowdfunded in January 2016.  We never seem to pass up an opportunity to talk to Schafer, and at EGX Rezzed last Friday I sat down with him to ask how Psychonauts 2 is coming along and whether he'd be interested in remastering more of Lucas
