Look, I get it: you can get a lot of videogame news anywhere, right? So I try to be interesting. I try to spice things up. I try to write in a funny and personable way that you hopefully don't find aggravating, so that you choose to spend your time reading news on PC Gamer rather than Competitor Website X. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is an unfinished game. Impressively unfinished, really. So unfinished that it doesn't so much have a final level as it does an idea for one that you just kind of percolate through until you hit credits. Presumably, the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic can’t hold up a newspaper with today’s date to prove that it is actually doing okay and hasn’t been quietly disposed of in a tax report somewhere, Warner Bros-style. This week's announcement that Embracer are selling off Saber Interactive to new company Beacon Interactive has cast further doubt over the future of one of Embracer's bigger projects, the much-delayed Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake. While Embracer have yet to actually state this out loud, it sounds like the KOTOR remake will be a "joint project" between Saber and Embracer. It also probably won't be out in the next 12 months. Given the project's repeated disruptions and delays, I suspect many of us will settle for the game coming out at all. Read more

The Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake exists in a bizarre limbo state at the moment. According to some sources, the new version of BioWare's classic RPG game is finished, over, never going to see the light of day. According to others, the KOTOR remake might be troubled, and going through a patch of development hell, but it's still alive, and in the works. One of the greatest Star Wars games ever, a return of Knights of the Old Republic would be very welcome indeed. Sorry to those of you looking forward to the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, but it sounds like the project is at a standstill. Earlier this week on GiantBomb's Game Mess Mornings, frequent sharer of insider tidbits Jeff Grubb made the claim that the Knights of the Old Republic remake is no longer being worked on in any shape or form. "This game is not being worked on right now, full stop," Grubb said. "This game is not being worked on in any way, at any studio." The Star Wars KOTOR remake, announced back in 2021, might have just been canceled. One of the greatest RPGs, the original Knights of the Old Republic - created by Mass Effect developer-to-be BioWare - is an icon of PC gaming. A full remake, originally helmed by Aspyr, was revealed at a Sony showcase two years ago. But now trailers and pages connected to the game have seemingly been removed from the internet, as the Embracer Group, which owns the studio behind the supposed KOTOR remake, institutes far-reaching cuts and closures.
