We’re happy to announce that in partnership with xREALM, community server rentals are once again available to players. You can now rent a Dirty Bomb server through xREALM by heading over to Dirty Bomb Server Hosting - xREALM and creating a new server with your preferred settings.AVAILABLE REGIONSGame servers will be available in several regions, including US West/Mid/East, South America, Central Europe, and Asia.SUPPORTAs with any change, there’s a chance some unforeseen issues may crop up early on. xREALM will provide support as they do with all game servers, and we’ll work closely with them

Splash Damage, the folks who made Gears Tactics and Brink, have announced they're working on a new sci-fi game. They've worked on a number of series created by other developers over the years, including Wolfenstein and Gears, but haven't made their own PC game since Dirty Bomb in 2014. It'll be interesting to see what they have in store - perhaps a first-person shooter like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory? Or maybe something more strategic, given Gears Tactics' success. Read more

Free-to-play team shooter Dirty Bomb never drew the crowds it deserved. Slightly wonky business model aside (now no longer an issue – the game is proper-free now), it was fast, satisfying and skilful stuff. Not surprising, as developers Splash Damage are as veteran as they come – they’re the crew behind the excellent Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory back in 2003, and several iterations on the formula since. Hey! You there! That's right, you - there's free stuff coming your way if you play Dirty Bomb after Tuesday 15th January. The catch is active development will be ending along with this. You may recall that in October last year, developer Splash Damage announced it could no longer "financially justify" working on Dirty Bomb. To lessen the pain for players, the developer has elected to remove all monetisation as part of the game's final update. The final update of Dirty Bomb is almost here, the last before Splash Damage end development, and it’s coming with a surprise: all the monetisation is being removed. Players will be able to get all characters, weapon skins, and rare doodads without spending a real penny. Splash Damage plan to keep Dirty Bomb servers up until at least the end of 2019, and it does tend to have a couple of hundred players online at any given moment, so it’s still not too late to try their fourth version of the Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory formula. Splash Damage has announced that it will no longer be actively developing or updating its free-to-play multiplayer shooter Dirty Bomb, saying that it "can't financially justify continuing to work on the game". Dirty Bomb unfolds in London following a string of terrorist attacks and is described as a "fast-paced team game" that "takes first person shooters back to their purest roots". It launched its open beta on Steam in 2015, and finally saw its version 1.0 release in August this year. Less than two months after finally launching Dirty Bomb in full, Splash Damage have announced they are stopping development on their free-to-play FPS set in merrye olde Londone tahn. The servers will stay up as long as enough players keep on playing, they say, but don’t expect any big future updates. Splash Damage say that, despite a big effort to renovate and finish it, the Enemy Territory-style shooter simply wasn’t making enough money to justify continuing live development. So it goes. (more…)
