Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. Cobalt had two ideas that make it one of the best arena shooters I ve played: automatic time slowing, and a roll button that deflects bullets. There s a single player/co-op campaign, though when I played that was only there in bare-bones form. Not that it mattered, because the multiplayer was fantastic. (more…)

One of the stranger side-effects of Microsoft buying Minecraft studio Mojang is that quirky sci-fi platform shooter Cobalt has just quietly continued to exist. Published by the now-mighty Swedish company and made by Oxeye, development on it continued for years, eventually resulting in a low-key release accompanied by a broadly positive critical reception, like in our review here. Oxeye are clearly not done with Cobalt, though. Hooray! Here are the winners of Cobalt Workshop Challenge #2, "Wonders of Speed"! I really love speed challenge maps, so it was a thrill to judge :) Each one of these level designers have earned a code for a Cobalt cape in Minecraft! Best Use of Game Mechanics Winner - Muriako for "The Once Great Wall" There were a couple of levels that used interesting triggers and effects in the design.
