Earlier this week, South of Midnight developer Compulsion Games shared word that they now own all of the publishing rights to their games, a welcome update in light of the ongoing BDS boycott against Microsoft and Xbox. And now, another studio is joining the realm of boycott freedom, this time Psychonauts studio Double Fine, as CEO Tim Schafer has confirmed that they too now own the publishing rights to their own catalogue. It's another one of those days, as Double Fine have announced that they are laying off 23 members of staff. This comes weeks after their split from Xbox that left them independent once more, which also saw South of Midnight developers Compulsion go indie, and State of Decay studio Undead Labs and Senua's Ninja Theory acquired by new, as of yet to be confirmed owners. Double Fine and iam8bit have announced that Psychonauts 2 will be getting a physical release later this year. Earlier this week, physical games and merchandise retailer iam8bit announced that Psychonauts 2 will be getting a physical release on PS4 and Xbox One/ Series X. This isn't technically the first physical release of the game, as some that backed the game on Fig back in the day were able to secure a physical copy, but this does mark the first time the game is receiving a broader physical release. Another month has begun and so another batch of games will be joining Xbox Game Pass for PC. The Milkman Conspiracy started, as many great things do, in a Thai restaurant. Or maybe it didn't. Tim Schafer can't remember exactly. Somebody—perhaps him—came up with the phrase 'I am the milkman, my milk is delicious', and it may or may not have been during a Double Fine team meal. Double Fine Studios - developer of Psychonauts, Costume Quest and Brutal Legend - has been snapped up by Microsoft. The annoucement was just made here in LA at Xbox's E3 2019 press conference. It's the latest huge acquisition for Xbox Game Studios after last year's purchase of Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Undead Labs and Compulsion Games. Double Fine's next game is the long-awaited Psychonauts 2, which received a glorious new gameplay trailer during the show. Not a new Windows Excel, as Schafer joked on stage. Read more
