Unfortunately, I have to postpone the release of Talescape once again. The good news first: Talescape itself is basically finished. The editor works. The player works. Publishing works. Most of my work on the platform now consists of fixing bugs, improving things that get on my nerves when I actually use it and adding new features here and there. The problem has less to do with the platform itself and more with everything around it.My own work situation has become a little less certain. Since Talescape is funded entirely independently, I currently need to be a bit more careful about how much of m

Talescape App v0.20.0 and API v0.21.0-8890b605 have been released. This update focuses on movement, mood and reusable presentation tools for stories.Reusable Atmospheres for ScenesAtmosphere Presets combine visual effects, such as weather or particles, with optional ambience audio. A preset can be created once and reused across multiple scenes, making recurring locations and moods easier to keep consistent. Updating the preset changes every scene that uses it, while consecutive scenes can share the same atmosphere without restarting it during each transition. Scenes can still use their own cus

The next version of Talescape has been released. This update adds multi-language stories. Bards can now prepare stories in more than one language, and Dreamers can choose an available story language separately from the general Talescape interface language. This means you can keep the app menus in one language while reading a story in another.Translated stories can stay playable while a language version is still being completed. If a translated line is missing, Talescape may show the story's original text instead, so Dreamers can continue playing and Bards can keep reviewing the translation over

The next version of Talescape has been released. This update adds Linux support. In addition to Windows and macOS, Talescape is now available on Linux and SteamOS. Steam Deck support has not been thoroughly tested yet, so if you run into issues, please report them on Discord. This release also introduces Florins. Florins are a way to say thank you to your favorite Bard, similar to tips. Talescape does not take a share from Florins given to Bards. They can be bought directly or included as part of subscriptions, giving subscribers a way to support the authors whose stories they enjoy.Subscription

Coal, Dust & Silence is an Echo story by Talescape Originals. You never really knew your grandfather. And if you are honest, you did not like him much.To you, Hasan was mostly a bitter old man. Often drunk. Usually distant. Someone the family spoke about carefully, or not at all.Now his apartment has to be cleared out, and you have enough problems of your own. Your work is changing, your future feels less certain than it used to, and the ground beneath your life no longer feels solid. But among old papers, photographs, work clothes, and forgotten objects, something begins to shift.Piece by piece

I want to share a quick update regarding the release of Talescape. While development has progressed significantly, several core systems still require additional polishing, testing and security work before I can confidently launch the platform. As a result, I've decided to move the planned release window from Q2 2026 to the end of Q3 2026.This extra time will be used to improve stability, strengthen platform security, and ensure the editor and publishing workflow meet the quality standards expected for launch.Thank you for your patience and support. Development continues actively and I'll keep sh

This release is mostly about scopes. Dialogues no longer have to sit on a single scene, variables can be bound to a scene, a chapter or the whole story and text fields can now pull values from variables directly. There are also two new input actions: one for free text, one for picking from a set of choices. On top of that, stories, public author pages and asset packs are now browsable on the website. If you want the full breakdown: https://talescape.com/en/about/journal/more-variable-magic-scoped-dialogues-moreIf you want to try things yourself, join the closed beta: https://talescape.com/en/clo

The first four characters from Sina Scribblecraft are now available as asset packs inside Talescape. Each pack includes a hand-drawn character with three distinct outfits, ready to use in your stories without any additional setup. The Ensemble:Emma: A character in a similar age range to a typical protagonist, but with a distinctly different energy. Quiet, bookish, and easy to place as a friend, sister or colleague.Dorian: A character with a cool, controlled, and subtly threatening presence. Not tied to a specific setting, which makes him flexible as a rival, antagonist or difficult superior.Jad

This update introduces two important new features: item types and variable display options. Items can now take on different gameplay roles (default, consumable, or equippable) giving stories more interesting inventory logic. Variables like health, sanity, or progress can now be surfaced directly to the player as visible stats.Additionally, the Scene Editor got a larger usability pass, there are new event actions, better media handling, more helpful Story Player feedback, and a round of bug fixes based on what came up during the closed beta.If you want the full breakdown: https://talescape.com/

This is the first update after the launch of the Closed Beta. It mainly includes bug fixes and optimizations based on the first wave of testing, along with a few new additions. Sina Scribblecraft is now contributing asset packs to Talescape, with her work available directly inside the editor. And last but not least, I finally created the first batch of tutorial videos I had been promising. The first 7 videos cover the Setting up your Story section of the documentation and can be accessed directly in the editor or viewed on YouTube. Most interesting video is the one about the Scene Editor: Here

It’s been a while since the last journal entry. Most of that time went into getting the Closed Beta up and running, so this update will focus on the main features first, followed by a condensed list of changes and fixes. Most of the features below were implemented before launch, with some already part of the first updates.Story PlayerThe Story Player is now fully functional. It includes automated cloud savegames, proper handling of story, chapter, and scene states, and a clear flow for starting or continuing playthroughs without risking overwritten progress.Stories now begin with customizable m

Just something fun to share:Talescape was shown at a networking event hosted by games.LINK.nrw at Ubisoft Germany. I couldn’t attend myself, but someone on site was kind enough to take a few photos when the trailer aired.Looking at the picture, the attendees seemed pretty interested. Hopefully I can attend the next event in person.
