Hideki Kamiya, formerly of Capcom and PlatinumGames, is now out in the world as a civilian. The legendary director is responsible for some of the best action games ever made, in particular Bayonetta, but following his departure from Platinum earlier this year (a company he co-founded) it doesn't seem like he's going to be involved much in games anymore... With Hideki Kamiya no longer working at PlatinumGames, the Bayonetta series will likely move on without him - and he might be taking his ideas for more games "to the grave." Back in September, the PlatinumGames co-founder announced that he would be leaving the studio after 16 years of developing games there. A month later, in October, the block-button-loving dev shared that he'll be producing videos for a YouTube channel, as he's not actually allowed to work on games in any capacity for the next year. Hideki Kamiya is unemployed, and like many unemployed guys with a passion for video games, he has created a YouTube channel. Titled "Let's ask Kamiya! - Why'd he quit? What are his plans?", it's a tongue-in-cheek message to fans of the former designer about what happened. PlatinumGames has announced that Hideki Kamiya, director of games like Bayonetta, is leaving the developer next month. Earlier today, PlatinumGames shared a statement on Twitter that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving the studio in October. "We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023," reads the statement. "We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day. Hellena Taylor, the original voice actor of PlatinumGames' Bayonetta, has called for a boycott of the game after alleging she received an "insulting" pay offer for the role. It's been known for a little while that for whatever reason, Taylor would not be reprising her role as the now pretty iconic witch, as she essentially said as such last year. Earlier this month it was confirmed that prolific voice actor Jennifer Hale would be taking over the role, with the game's director Yusuke Miyata saying that, "various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role.

We haven't heard much about Bayonetta 3 since it was announced a few years ago. Developer PlatinumGames hopes to change that this year, and reveal some other projects besides. In a conversation between Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya and Hamster Corporation CEO Satoshi Hamada as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives series (ta, Nintendo Everything), Kamiya stated he'd like to give a substantial update this year, on Bayonetta, and more besides. In my head, The Wonderful 101: Remastered has only been out for a month or so. In reality, it came out back in May, and I’m not quite sure how that happened. 2020 continues to amaze with its ability to warp all perception of time. Oh well. Platinum Games’ weird superhero-morphing adventure has a free two-hour demo out now on Steam, so perhaps that will distract from the fact we’re in the final month of this damned year. Bayonetta and Nier: Automata developers Platinum Games have made a big announcement to start off the year – they’ve got themselves a partnership investment from Chinese conglomerate Tencent. With this, they might start self-publishing games. That’s not all though. The company have even more in store for us in the coming months, including an update on upcoming game Babylon’s Fall, and according to Platinum’s president and CEO, Kenichi Sato, 2020 will really be the year they come into their own.
