For those who grew up through the PlayStation 1 era, it was hard not to at least be vaguely aware of the Fear Effect series. Despite their genre roots lying in survival horror, awkward camera angles and all, their mix of stylish comic-style visuals, cornball sci-fi/supernatural espionage stories (with zombies, sometimes) and famously tacky ad campaigns helped the series stand out. Fear Effect Sedna comes out on 6th March 2018 - 18 years after the first game in the series launched on the original PlayStation. Sedna, from French developer Sushee and published by Square Enix Collective, launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC priced 15.99 / $19.99 / €19.99. If you owned a PS1 you might remember Fear Effect, a stylish horror shooter that became something of a cult classic. French developer Sushee are trying to tap into that nostalgia with a complete remake of the game called Fear Effect Reinvented as well as a real-time tactics spin-off called Fear Effect Sedna. At the turn of the millennium, Kronos Digital Entertainment and Eidos launched Fear Effect—a stylish but slightly strange cyberpunk dystopia action adventure game for the original PlayStation. It was well received but also generated an enduring cult following, with many players expecting more beyond its 2001 Retro Helix follow-up at the time. This wasn't to be, sadly, however French indie outfit Sushee—the studio behind Goetia—returned to the series via Kickstarter last year with Fear Effect Seda, an isometric tactical adventure game that echoes the PS1 classic.
