A new update for Shakedown: Hawaii is now available. The "Pen vs. Sword" update adds new weapons, challenges, styles, a multiplier assistant feature, and more. Here's a quick rundown... Shakedown: Hawaii Update Notes v1.1.1 (PC) - October 24, 2020 Gloves have been added to various shops, so you can now "customize" your character's hands. Check out the mall (second floor) or large department store on the west side of the map (among other places) to grab some. During the "Territory Takeover" shakedown missions, enemies will now more fiercely counter vehicle attacks (level 3 onward). This encourages players to engage in combat and use a more strategic approach. The "Live Broadcast" boss AI has been improved and made slightly more challenging (particularly under normal difficulty

After a year of tearing up the same turf, it’s time to take the shakedown to another store. Following last year’s debut on the Epic Games Store, Retro City Rampage follow-up Shakedown: Hawaii is bringing its playful, parodical GTA-esque sandbox to Steam this August. But first, developers Vblank Entertainment are once again taking a brief detour towards some rather unexpected ports. (more…)

Shakedown: Hawaii is the latest game from Brian Provinciano, whose previous work, Retro City Rampage, de-made GTA for the era of 8-bit consoles and then loaded its open-world with topical memespeak gags and labour-of-love gimmicks. Shakedown: Hawaii is more of the same - more open-world crime, with 16-bit graphics this time, as a trio of characters rebuild a decrepit business empire using deeply questionable tactics. But as well as being a game about stealing cars, running people down, and shooting everyone you meet to pieces, it's also a bit of a clicker. The more you play, the more you earn.

Shakedown: Hawaii may be a bloodless 2D parody of Grand Theft Auto with nary a swear or drug reference in sight, but it’s still a deeply cynical game from the hour or so I’ve played so far. Out today, it’s the sequel to Retro City Rampage, developer Vblank Entertainment’s earlier joke-a-minute GTA parody. This time they’ve traded in the pseudo-NES sprites for SNES era colour and definition, although the game’s story of an ’80s corporate head trying to stay relevant in the day of gamer-branded soft drinks and VR arcades is as contemporary as it gets. Developer Vblank Entertainment has announced that Shakedown: Hawaii, its long-awaited Retro City Rampage follow-up, will be coming to Switch, PlayStation 4, Vita, and PC on 7th May. Shakedown: Hawaii, which was initially due to launch in April 2017, picks up the action 30 years after the events of Retro City Rampage, rejoining that game's protagonist (now a big-shot CEO, rather than a small-time crook), for more open-world shenanigans - albeit ones that trade the original game's 8-bit trappings for more of a 16-bit flair. There's more to the experience than a mere visual upgrade, however; corp

Shakedown Hawaii – the much-delayed sequel to Vblank Entertainment’s grand GTA parody Retro City Rampage – is nearly here, and will be making its debut on the Epic store later this spring. The scope of the game seems to have grown a bit since I last looked. It now blends its pseudo-16-bit aesthetic with the 80s trappings of GTA: Vice City and the character-hopping story of GTA 5. In-between running around and causing the usual urban chaos, there’ll be mini-games and even some property management. Take a peek at the weirdly informercial-ish trailer below. (more…)

The next game from the developer of Retro City Rampage makes its PC debut first on the Epic Games store. Shakedown: Hawaii, from developer Vblank Entertainment, comes out this spring. It combines 16-bit open world action and empire building. You build an ostensibly legitimate corporation by completing missions and acquiring businesses, while sabotaging your competitors and shaking down shops for protection money. The trailer is below.
