Forgive me, readers, for I have let us all down. This week I had someone over to sign a legal document as a witness, and we watched Fury Road, and I didn’t say “Witness me!”. If the humor of Psychonauts, the mechanics of Paper Mario, and the wacky, noodly designs of Dr. Seuss had a love child, I think it d look a lot like Flipping Death. A platformer, puzzle, and adventure game all in one (to various success), the developers have been so inspired by Tim Schafer’s work over the years that Double Fine Productions are thanked in its credits. Flipping Death shares a lot of the same comedic style as Double Fine games, but Zoink Games carve a name for themselves in their commitment to Flipping Death s aesthetic (one established in 2013’s Stick It To The Man

Zoink Games might not have been around long, but they’ve already cultivated a striking house style. You couldn’t mistake Flipping Death – released today – for anything other than a successor to Psychonauts-ish platform puzzler Stick It To The Man. After an unfortunate fall (gravity is a harsh mistress), Penny Doewood finds herself in the land of the dead, and pressed into service as the grim reaper’s temporary replacement. and so it’s off to hop, skip and jump between the lands of life and death and ensure the recently deceased can rest in relative peace. UPDATE 1/8/18: Developer Zoink has swung its scythe and felled all remaining obstacles standing in the way of announcing a release date for its Stick It To The Man spiritual successor, Flipping Death. The ghoulish comedy adventure will, says Zoink, be heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch next week on Tuesday, August 7th.
