We live in a world of story-rich games. Of course there's Baldur's Gate 3, then newcomers like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and South of Midnight, with old favorites like the Dragon Age and Mass Effect series feeling like timeless classics. For me, The Sinking City is one of those iconic narrative-driven adventures, thrusting you into the bowels of Oakmont, a once-bustling metropolis that's slowly falling into the sea. There's something so alluring about H.P Lovecraft's work. Whether it's the contemporary turn-of-the-century setting, or sheer enormity of his cosmic creations, when Cthulhu calls, I can't help but listen. The Sinking City 2 and, of course, its predecessor, blend all of that eerie goodness with old-fashioned horror game mechanics and L.A. Noire-esque investigation, and it quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite indie series. Now that we've finally got a little more insight into the sequel, however, Frogwares has confirmed that the original game is getting a full remaster ahead its sister'

Back in 2023, I had a blast with developer Frogwares' remake of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened. Its blend of detective work and Lovecraftian horror felt like the studio fully in its element. I enjoy its straight Sherlock Holmes games, but increasingly they have this undercurrent of dark strangeness—particularly noticeable in most recent entry Chapter One—as if the team are straining to stop themselves slipping a tentacle and a cult sacrifice into the middle of the mystery...
