Maybe there's some alternate timeline out there where FromSoft earned its global reputation well before Demon's Souls' hard-edged fantasy, where maybe its breakthrough game was another of its many cult classics. The headline does not lie – one of the boss fights in FromSoftware’s Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a mech battle against an armoured, armed and re-branded White House. Despite arguably being the most American game on the original Xbox, its tale of a power-armoured US President liberating the nation one state at a time has been Japanese-only until now. I’d never heard of Metal Wolf Chaos before today, which was why I raised an eyebrow at the claim this press release makes about it being “From Software s legendary mech shooter” which was “previously released in 2004 as an Xbox exclusive only in Japan”.
