Borderlands 3 recently reappeared on the Steam Deck's most-played games list, which suggests that if the Borderlands 4 Steam Deck rating is either Playable or Verified, it could prove popular on the handheld. Uh oh, the Borderlands movie is off to an incredibly rough start, as the box office figures point all sign towards a flop. I think it's pretty safe to say that Borderlands is a pretty popular series, right? Do we all agree there? It has to be, otherwise the idea of making a movie adaptation would be unthinkable. I don't care what anyone says, the Borderlands games are exactly what they need to be. The looter shooter RPGs are filled with over-the-top guns, eccentric characters, and idiosyncratic writing to the point that many people turn away. I get it. Some of it has aged like milk and the tone isn't for everyone. But if you look past this and play each game for what it is, these are some incredibly dense, rewarding, and combat-heavy shooters that are a joy to play with friends. It's pretty rare that I walk out of a movie theatre thinking "I truly just wasted 90+ minutes of my life watching that." Alongside announcing plans to buy Borderlands developers Gearbox from the collapsing wreckage of Embracer Group, Borderlands publishers Take-Two overnight casually mentioned that they are "in active development on next installment in Borderlands series". Embracer Groups is divesting itself of Gearbox for 460 million dollars, according to an official Embracer Group press release. Gearbox - creator of Borderlands, Risk of Rain, and more video game IPs - will be aquired by Take Two and paid entirely with newly created Take Two shares. It seems like Jack Black mostly has video game movies on his mind outside of Kung Fu Panda these days, as even he's wondering where a Grand Theft Auto movie is. It's looking increasingly likely that Gearbox Entertainment is going to be sold by Embracer. In a town hall with staff earlier this week, CEO and co-founder Randy Pitchford reportedly told staff that a decision had been made regarding the studio's future, with more details to be shared in March. Embracer bought Gearbox for $1.3 billion (around £1.02 billion) in 2021, but it was reported that they were looking to sell last year as part of ongoing layoffs, closures and divestments. Read more
