THQ Nordic continue to hoover up studios and games that make many go “Oh huh, yeah, they could be neat,” today announcing they’ve bought Piranha Bytes. They’re the German studio who created Gothic, Risen, and Elex, three open-world RPG series with varying degrees of promise and wonk that make many go “Oh huh, yeah, they could be neat.” Along with the team, THQ Nordic have bought the rights to those three and do hint that a sequel to 2017’s Elex is coming. Perhaps THQ Nordic can give Piranha Bytes the cash they need to exorcise some of their jank. (m

THQ Nordic has acquired Gothic creator Piranha Bytes, and with it the IP rights to Gothic, Risen and Elex. The two companies have worked together before - THQ Nordic having been the publisher of Elex (2017), which was a bit ropey but charming nonetheless (a little like Piranha Bytes' other games). On the prospect of Elex 2, the acquisition press release said: "Semi-official comment: Have a guess." As for a new Gothic - presumably Gothic 5? "Nothing to say at this stage." Read more

We've seen a lot of reports over the weekend that after the 64-bit patch people get notifications that their save game is no longer accessible due to a "missing DLC" error. We've been actively looking into this issue and we hope to find a good solution soon. It seems the issue *should* only affect users who created a save game on Friday, August 21, in a period during the day (European time) after the patch went live. Save games created before the patch went live on Friday, or on Saturday and beyond, should work as intended. If that's not the case, however, please let us know in the comments as

O Risen – The ol’ girl gets accused of being what’s called “low fantasy” (fiction elitist-speak which I think essentially means it has pirates in it).
